Skateboard Vert Prelims Recap

By Chris Mitchell

(October 22, 2005) The crowds nearly brought down the house when they announced the beginning of the skateboard vert comp. They screamed, applauded and clapped their thunder sticks together in anticipation of the prelim event.

Overall, the riders skated very conservatively – and understandably so – with this much money on the line, nobody wanted to get knocked out before the final round.

Chris Gentry snuck under the wire in tenth place with a run that featured an insane combination of kick flip indy to backside 540 to rodeo 5. Buster Halterman was the only rider to pull an indy 540.

It was generally agreed that Sandro Dias and Lincoln Ueda went huge. Even with his hurt shoulder, Sandro was a crowd favorite. Pierre-Luc Gagnon did a solid run that combined stylish air tricks with lip tricks to finish 4th.

Anthony Furlong nailed a whole run of back-to-back tricks to finish in third. Rune Glifberg did a series of really tech tricks like a flip indy to huge tail grab to heel flip frontside air to mctwist.

But Andy Mac finished in 1st with a run that featured a nollie heel flip, a 540 body varial and a frontside rodeo mellon.
