LG Action Sports Championships Skateboarding Street Finals Recap
By Chris Mitchell

(October 25, 2005) At the end of the day, Sunday, nobody expected much of a crowd for the skate street comp, but the Arena was practically sold out. People had come from all over the UK to watch the best skaters in the world on the LGASC street course. And they weren’t disappointed.

Guys like Avi Luzia from Tel Aviv and Dayne Brummet received a warm response for their skating, but Chad Fernandez brought down the house with his frontside over crooks down the big rail. He finished his run by lipsliding the double barrel, and so secured himself an 8th place finish.

Alex Gavin doesn’t get out of Canada much, but when he does, it’s sure to be an exciting show. He put together a great run with terrific style. Josh Evin was a crowd favorite with his tail drop off the 24 foot deck to backside 360 over the box. He worked the whole course. He worked the whole course with good speed and finished 6th.

The odds were on Greg Lutzka to take the comp, and he put together some amazing stuff, like a tailslide frontside 360 out across the ledge box, but he only skated one side of the course, so the judges put him in 5th. Not so for the tech innovator Chris Dobstaff , who skated the entire course, pulling a trick every fifteen feet.

Although he qualified in 4th, UK hero Ross McGowan pulled into 3rd with one of the best lines of the day. He kickflipped down the Euro gap and pulled an alley oop nollie heelflip on the banked hip.

Daniel Vieira has always been consistent, but he has been so quiet lately that nobody expected him to do much. Still, he pulled through with a super-stylish run that left him with a silver medal.

And the Championship title went to switchstance king, who bombed the course at top speed, consistently ailing tricks like his switch crooks across the ledge.
